Daniel Coombes was born in Leicestershire, England in 1986, but has spent most of his life living in Norfolk. Daniel had a keen interest in art from a very early age and studied this through college and university. During his time at The Norwich School of Art and Design he started to specialise with oil paints. At this stage, Daniel took inspiration from the local landscape and spent time experimenting and exploring different styles and techniques

After gaining confidence through painting sales and solo exhibitions, Daniel decided to push the boundaries with his final degree show. His work focused on a train carriage that had been abandoned in a local woodland with a mystery of how, when and why it was placed there. After agreements with area trustees and the foresty commision, Daniel became the proud owner of the train carriage. Daniel decided to dismantle and reconstruct a section of the carriage in the exhibition space with paintings that responded to the installation.

Once leaving the art school, Daniel decided to join his love of art with his passion for working with young people. This led to him training at Notre Dame high school followed by a permanent teaching role at Flegg High School. Daniel is currently enjoying his time there as head of art and likes to set-up different opportunities for students to explore their creative aspirations. Daniel is keen to bring animation, photography and modern media into the department to appeal to the students and their interests.

Although teaching is at the forefront of Daniel's mind, he has decided to start the painting process again and has promised new paintings in the near future.
